Making music on the piano has always been a rewarding experience for me. Music allows me to express myself, gain confidence by mastering something previously difficult, and relate to others by sharing my work through performing. These are all my inspirations for teaching.
My goal in teaching is to guide students to become well-rounded musicians by teaching lessons that focus on technique, interpretation and tone production, performance with additional training in sight-reading, theory, aural skills, and ensemble playing. Through this comprehensive music education, my students develop the solid musical foundation necessary for maximal enjoyment of music making.
In my studio, students are taught to practice effectively so as to overcome challenges in the most efficient ways. Even the most advanced pianist encounters many sets of challenges in the early stages of learning, but with carefully-guided practice, one learns how to overcome these difficulties. Through consistent and correct practice, students acquire skills such as self discipline, concentration, and perseverance: skills important not only in music study, but also in other areas of learning.
As a musician, I value the ability to use music as a means of communicating with others. Therefore, I encourage students to participate in group activities such as studio classes and recitals. In these gatherings, students celebrate their hard work and draw inspiration from the performances of their peers.
Lessons in my studio are always tailored to suit an individual’s learning pace, goals and personality. I hope that, by setting students up for success, I can help each student to develop a lifelong love and appreciation for music.
